The 'Riverwalk' series started in 2019 and continues onwards. I walk beside the river in our village and have been observing the twisted and gnarled trees, some covered heavily in rich green moss, others fallen into the river itself, their root system revealed. This is a very dynamic river often flooding into the meadows and eroding the bank. Fallen trees adjust the course of its flow, creating islands of pebble and rock. As the water level rises and falls, rocky banks, young roots are exposed. In winter, the trees are stripped bare to reveal their skeletal branches repeated by reflection in the water - and the distant hills glimpsed between the branches. Spring sees the new buds appearing in bright greens, Autumn reveals ochres, oranges, ambers and reds, and high summer, every green I can mix on my palette. Responding to this rich inspiration in sketchbook, on paper and onto canvas has been a joy.
